Who Is Mistral Dawn?

Mistral Dawn is a thirty-something gal who has lived on both coasts of the US but somehow never in the middle. She currently resides in the Southeast US with her kitty cats (please spay or neuter! :-)) where she works as a hospital drudge and attends graduate school. Taken By The Huntsman is her first effort at writing fiction and if it is well received she has ideas for several more novels and short-stories in this series. Please feel free to visit her on FaceBook or drop her a line at mistralkdawn@gmail.com

Mixed Results...

Hey Everyone!! :-)

Here's a little bit more of the third installment in the Petri Dish Chronicles! As always, the disclaimer is that this is a draft and, as such, it's unedited and likely full of errors and is subject to revision, revamping, and being completely scrapped and rewritten. But, with that in mind, I'm reasonably satisfied with the basics of it, at least at the moment, or I wouldn't have bothered posting it. Enjoy! :-)

Excerpt from Shifting Paradigms:
Petri took a deep breath and focused on the fire. Holding her breath, she reached out with her mind and tried to feel it the same way she would reach for another mind. The energy was there, she could feel it the way she always felt the energy of the rainbow, but it tasted so foreign to her that she had no idea how to even begin to try to connect with it. For long moments, she strained, pushing her mental energy against the ocean surrounding her, trying to force a melding. But it was like trying to get oil to mix with water; the two simply would not combine no matter what she did.

Finally, Petri had to stop. Gasping after holding her breath for so long and perspiring as if she had run as fast as she could for miles, she turned slightly out-of-focus-eyes on their host. “I can’t do it. There’s nothing there for me to meld with. It's too different."

Silence met her declaration, and Petri looked around at her friends. Daji and Chessie were both staring, wide-eyed, at the fireplace, but Vlad was looking at her thoughtfully. “What?"

“You did something, hun. I don’t know what, but you definitely did something.”
