Who Is Mistral Dawn?

Mistral Dawn is a thirty-something gal who has lived on both coasts of the US but somehow never in the middle. She currently resides in the Southeast US with her kitty cats (please spay or neuter! :-)) where she works as a hospital drudge and attends graduate school. Taken By The Huntsman is her first effort at writing fiction and if it is well received she has ideas for several more novels and short-stories in this series. Please feel free to visit her on FaceBook or drop her a line at mistralkdawn@gmail.com

Should PETA Be Allowed To Dictate Your Menu Choices?

Hey Everyone!

Yep, that sure is a provocative title. Know why? Because this is another installment in my on-going rants against the creep of power that the corporately-owned Christian Taliban has been accumulating in this country, and I wanted to make sure I had your attention. Like these rants; don't like them. That's up to you. But I have no intention of stopping. So, read at your own risk. ;-)

Now, look, if you want to believe a fetus is the same as a human being, that's fine. You can believe anything you want. You can believe that the moon is made of green cheese, and that it's pushed across the sky by the little man who lives there if you want to. But that doesn't mean anyone else is obligated to live their lives in accordance with your beliefs, or that you have the right to try to force your beliefs on others through violent means.

Think of it this way, there are a lot of people who sincerely believe that animal life is of equal value to human life and that killing animals for food is tantamount to murder. Not only are there many, many people who believe this, there are religions that have millions of followers that teach this. So, given that there are all these people who believe eating meat is morally reprehensible, and whose religion teaches that eating meat is wrong, does that mean you should be forced to become a vegetarian? Should meat be outlawed and anyone who consumes it be prosecuted for murder?

If you don't think it would be okay for all the people who think you're committing murder by eating a hamburger to be able to force their morality on you, then you have absolutely no right at all to force your views about abortion on others. That's the beauty of the separation between church and state; we all get to believe what we want, and no one else is forced to live by those beliefs. And remember, any time you take rights away from someone else, it becomes just that much easier for someone who disagrees with you to come along and take your rights away.

Peace!
