When the morning light woke her, Roni opened her eyes to see
Uaine gazing down at her with love in his eyes. She smiled back at him, and slid her arms up his chest and around
his neck to draw him closer for a kiss.
Uaine responded enthusiastically at first, but then drew
back and gently disengaged. Smiling, he said; “As much as I’d love to see where
this might go, I’m afraid we have to hurry and dress.”
“Why?”
“I sent word this morning to my mother of your return. She wants to formally present you to the
Court. It’s not a coronation and it
won’t officially make you queen, but it’s a clear statement that you will be
queen in the near future and that she considers you heir to her position. It will cement your place at Court and
augment your authority as a judge.”
“So it’s a fancy, formal kind of thing, huh?”
“Yes. Definitely.”
“Then I guess we don’t even have time for a quickie?”
Smiling, he took her hand in his and brought it to his
lips. Grinning against the back of her
hand, he kissed it. “No, as much as I wish we did, we don’t.”
Roni sighed. “If you say so.”
“I do.”
