Who Is Mistral Dawn?

Mistral Dawn is a thirty-something gal who has lived on both coasts of the US but somehow never in the middle. She currently resides in the Southeast US with her kitty cats (please spay or neuter! :-)) where she works as a hospital drudge and attends graduate school. Taken By The Huntsman is her first effort at writing fiction and if it is well received she has ideas for several more novels and short-stories in this series. Please feel free to visit her on FaceBook or drop her a line at mistralkdawn@gmail.com

The Force Was Weak With This One

Hey Everyone!! :-)

So...I finally got around to watching Rogue One and thought I'd share my review. I don't usually do movie reviews, but I've been a Star Wars fan since I was a kid, and this one got so much social media attention, I thought, why not? So, if this isn't your thing, I understand. And hopefully you'll stop back tomorrow to see what else is new. ;-)

Now, all that being said, the movie was somewhat disappointing, but not to the point it would justify all the death and rape threats. Not that I can envision any movie that would justify death or rape threats. I mean, even an actual snuff film, which obviously this being a Disney production was not that, would only justify threats to bring the perpetrators to justice. Other than that, if you dislike a movie to that extent just...don't watch it. A complicated concept, apparently.

But I digress. It was a bit disappointing because it was way too rushed in several places. It's like they needed another 2 to 3 hours to tell the story. But rather than either making two movies, or one really long movie, they just rushed it along. And it was painfully obvious.

Also, the acting was sub-par, at times. Not by any of the main characters, but by some of the supporting cast. And it had a sad ending, which is just not what one wants from a Star Wars movie. Though, given the timing of the film and the fact that the characters weren't part of subsequent storylines, the argument could certainly be made that there was no other viable choice.

Darth Vader's voice also didn't sound right. I'm not sure if they tried to use recordings and computer manipulations instead of hiring James Earl Jones to read the lines, or if he's just getting older and his voice has lost some of its resonance. Regardless of why, Darth Vader's voice was just...off, somehow.

It was also pretty dark for a Star Wars film, and unlike in the original trilogy, watchers were made to feel the darkness of it. I think the original trilogy had a kind of tongue-in-cheek, campy quality that made even the dark parts less...dark.

And, overall, it lacked the magical quality of the original trilogy that just made those movies work in a way that none of the subsequent Star Wars movies have worked. But, if you're looking for a relatively harmless way to kill a couple of hours and haven't seen it yet, it's okay.
