Who Is Mistral Dawn?

Mistral Dawn is a thirty-something gal who has lived on both coasts of the US but somehow never in the middle. She currently resides in the Southeast US with her kitty cats (please spay or neuter! :-)) where she works as a hospital drudge and attends graduate school. Taken By The Huntsman is her first effort at writing fiction and if it is well received she has ideas for several more novels and short-stories in this series. Please feel free to visit her on FaceBook or drop her a line at mistralkdawn@gmail.com

#Agent Thoth's #Personal Log: Day 1293

Hey Everyone! 😊

Agent Thoth discusses more of the trials and tribulations associated with living with hominids. Incidentally, if you've missed Agent Thoth's earlier entries, you can find them here: Thoth's Journal

Day Twelve-Hundred-Ninety-Three:
The alliance between the canid and my young apprentice seems to have suffered some strain. Yesterday, the little idiot was napping on the canid’s pillow and she inexplicably took exception to this fact. To be honest, I was as astonished as my youthful apprentice at her sudden change in behavior. He has been occupying her space for days without perceivable protest from her, and there was no noticeable change in her demeanor beforehand.

Then, without warning, the canid turned and snapped at the tiny halfwit, forcing him from her pillow. For his part, he leaped from his slumber and quickly deployed the CLAWS. My hominid-servant intervened, at that point, and ordered them both to “behave.” A strange command since they were both engaging in behavior, though perhaps not the sort of behavior she desired.

Regardless, the dispute dissolved and the combatants both retreated to their own areas; the canid to her pillow, and the small nuisance to his preferred place of concealment beneath my hominid-servant’s sleeping platform. But I am forced to wonder if this bodes ill for the plot against my hominid-servant or if the two will resolve their differences in the interest of a shared objective.

Hmmm... Plot twist! 😉 You may have noticed that Agent Thoth has a new look. I hope you like his new picture as much as I do, but I'd love to hear your thoughts, either way. Feel free to let me know what you think in the comments. 😉 Happy reading, everyone!

The Furry Brigade...

Hey Everyone!! 😊

I posted this on Facebook a while ago and thought I'd share it here too. Why not, right? Hopefully, it will give you a laugh. 😉

Am I the only one who wakes up to a queue every morning?

"Yes, I'm still breathing. No, thank you, I don't need you to stick your tail in my mouth to make sure."

"Yes, I still love you. You, too. Yes, and you. No, I don't need you to try to kill each other on top of my head; I'm perfectly capable of being the human for all of you at the same time. Yes, I'm 100% sure, but thank you for your concern."

"Yes, I will get up and feed you eventually, even though I'm positive you still have food in your bowl. No, I haven't forgotten. Nope, still haven't forgotten. Yes, I'm getting up. May I open my eyes first please?"

"Yes, I still love you. I know it has been five minutes since you last stuck your butt in my face, but I promise I haven't forgotten you. Or you. Or you, either."

"Alright I'm up. I'm up for fuck's sake! Yes, I still love you all. No, I will not bend over to pet you, right now, because if I do there's a good chance I'll end up on the floor."

"If you trip me, and I break something, I won't be able to feed you. In fact, if you guys make me fall, I'm staying on the floor and going back to sleep."

"No, there are no extra points for making the most passes at tripping the human. Nor are there extra points for tripping the human on the stairs. Yes, I'm sure."

"No, if you bat the can out of my hands, I will not be able to open it faster. Nope, doing it a second time won't speed up the process, either."

"Okay, if y'all want to play keep-away-hockey with that can, that's fine. I'll leave the can opener here on the floor, and you can open it when you're ready."

"What do you mean 'meow'? No, turning it into a moan with a convincing death-rattle at the end doesn't make it any clearer. I'm not chasing the can around. If you want me to open it, stop playing keep-away with it."

"Yes, I know. I'm completely unreasonable. Somehow, I think you'll live. See? Now you even have canned food to help you on your recovery."

"You know, if you trample me to death to get to this can, I won't be able open another one tonight."

"Yeah, yeah, you're cute when you purr at your food. You're welcome."

Sheesh! 🙄

Something Worth Watching?

Hey Everyone!! :-)

I'm back today with another video I wanted to share. More than one, actually. I'm sharing these videos because I think they do a good job of explaining some hard truths about the Democrats in federal-level elected office and why we need to start demanding better. But watch them for yourselves and form your own opinions. Peace!

Chickenless Broth #Recipe!

Hey Everyone!! :-)

This is an easy fake-out broth that I like to keep on hand for use in making soups or just to sip if I start to feel under the weather. Enjoy! :-)

Ingredients:
12 cups water
8 onions
6 carrots scrubbed well or peeled
6 stalks celery washed
1 head kale or broccoli
4 bulbs garlic
1/4 cup ground turmeric
1/4 cup dried oregano
1/4 cup dried basil
1/8 cup dried rosemary
1/4 cup vegetarian Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 stick butter (optional)
3 inches ginger root (optional)
1/8 cup soy sauce (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste (be generous with both but especially the salt)

Put the olive oil and butter (optional) and the dried seasonings in a large stockpot and heat gently. Add the water and the rest of the ingredients. You don't need to worry about chopping or peeling any of the vegetables, just make sure they're clean and cut them in half. Bring the water to a boil and then reduce the heat to a simmer. Simmer the stock for 2-3 hours, stirring periodically. Taste occasionally and adjust the seasonings to suit your taste. Once the liquid has reduced and the vegetables are mush, remove the stock from the heat and cool. Pour the cooled broth through cheesecloth to remove all the solids and the liquid you have left is your chickenless broth. It can be used immediately, though it's best to let it sit overnight in the fridge, or frozen.

Bon appetit!

Culture Clashes... 😉

Hey Everyone!! 😊

Since it's Friday, which is often date-night, I thought I'd share a little glimpse into some of the challenges The Huntsman had when trying to plan a first date with his soulmate. Enjoy... 😉

Excerpt from Taken by the Huntsman:
Cadeyrn had been trying to think of a way to start courting his Anamchara.  The Fae had access to human media sources.  The broadcast media they could listen to or watch using the same spell they used to communicate over long distances with each other.  The written media they could see by casting a spell on a book to display any written source the reader desired.  Cadeyrn had been reading a lot about modern human courtship rituals and had found that the commonly accepted method for humans who were Cassie’s age and of a similar origin was to go on "dates."

"Dates," he had learned, were activities that both parties found enjoyable. They allowed the two parties to get to know each other better, and were conducted in an environment both parties found relaxing and non-threatening. He was having a hard time thinking of anything that fit all of those criteria.

He didn’t know his Anamchara well enough to know what activities she found enjoyable. It seemed likely that she would prefer to spend some time outside of the castle walls. But he would not be able to relax knowing that she was outside his fortress, and so vulnerable to attack.

What he really wanted was to just sit with his Anamchara and speak with her and get to know her. But he didn’t know how long she’d be willing to humor him, and he didn’t want to bore or upset her. He thought the easiest way to learn more about her would be by observing her unobtrusively as she went about her daily routine. But the human sources he had read used words like "creepy" and "stalker" to describe such behavior, so he didn’t think Cassie would appreciate it if he did that.

He hoped that their conversation over their morning meal would give him some idea of something that Cassie might enjoy doing that he didn’t think was too dangerous. Once he had transferred the Scath to her, he would enjoy taking her out into the forest and showing her some of the wonders to be seen in his territory. The thought of making love to her under the trees had him hard enough to drive nails. But the risk of exposing her to all of the dangers lurking in the woods without the protection of the Scath was something he had a hard time facing.

The door to his bedroom opened, and he straightened up from his slouch against the wall.  Cassie stood there looking stunning in some trousers and a purple top that made her blue eyes sparkle. Her insistence that she wouldn’t wear dresses had amused him. But seeing how the trousers hugged her backside made him consider banning dresses from her wardrobe forever.

He wanted to reach out and run his hand over the soft material, but he knew that would likely earn him a scolding at the very least. It was almost worth it, but he didn’t want his Anamchara to think he was unable to control himself. Or that he only valued her as an object of lust. He hadn’t earned such liberties yet, and so he restrained himself. Still, he thought he’d probably do a lot to earn such a reward. And the thought of it was even more motivation to try to convince Cassie to give a relationship between the two of them a chance.

Day Twelve-Hundred-Eighty-Eight:
My young protégée has begun napping with the canid on her cushion. I am uncertain if this is to facilitate communications regarding their conspiracy against my hominid-servant, or if there is some deeper connection between the two that is forming. Either way, I will continue to follow this developing situation with interest. Hopefully, it will prove as entertaining as it promises.

The game is afoot! 😉 You may have noticed that Agent Thoth has a new look. I hope you like his new picture as much as I do, but I'd love to hear your thoughts, either way. Feel free to let me know what you think in the comments. 😉 Happy reading, everyone!
