Chapter One

Jillian had a bad feeling. The Sidhe's gaze flitted from one Fae to the next, her eyes combing through the crowd assembled in the throne room of the Summer Court. Searching desperately for some clue as to the source of the threat. For days she had stood quietly behind the queen, as Briallen welcomed the dignitaries who had traveled from all over Fairie to witness the wedding and coronation of Roni and Uaine. It wasn't every day that new rulers assumed control of one of the Season Courts.

Once the young people were properly crowned, they would ascend to the throne of the Summer Court, and Briallen would step down. Never had Briallen looked more regal than she did now, as she fought through her grief to represent the Summer Court during this time of change. Jillian's heart broke for her queen, even as her trepidation built.

What Jillian found maddening was that she couldn't identify the source of her unease. Ever since her encounter with the goddess, her instincts seemed to have been heightened. At times, it seemed as though she could tell what would happen before it came to pass. She was still learning how to use this new ability, but she knew that ignoring a gift from the goddess was never wise. Right now, every instinct in her was screaming that something was wrong.

Taking a deep breath, Jillian reached into the bag that hung over her shoulder to pet the easy-going rabbit who waited inside. The feel of Patches' soft fur under her hand calmed her, as it always did. Her sweet bunny friend, sensing her disquiet, nuzzled her fingers in an attempt to reassure her. Unfortunately, despite Patches' best efforts, Jillian's feeling of foreboding persisted without abatement.

She continued to seek any hint as to what direction the peril might strike from by observing the crowd. Jillian noted that the Erlking and his Anamchara, Cassie, had finally arrived. The presence of Fairie's Huntsman gave her some comfort. A Fae would have to be bold indeed, and foolhardy, to instigate trouble in the presence of the goddess's own enforcer. Still, Jillian couldn't escape a feeling of dread.

Her attention was caught as Ankou, the king of the Winter Court, approached Briallen and nodded to the queen. Jillian marveled at how strong the king looked, despite all of his loss. A weaker Fae would have long since decided to allow themselves to fade, but Ankou appeared as solid and powerful as ever. The thought of his long eons of existence gave even Jillian, who had lived for tens of thousands of years, pause. As she observed the large male moving through the throng of Fae around the throne, her heart ached over the mantle of sorrow that surrounded him.

Shaking herself from her reverie, Jillian tried to focus on the nebulous feeling at the back of her mind and identify just what was causing it. With so many gathered to celebrate Roni and Uaine's union, a premonition of danger couldn't be dismissed. She shook her head; it was no good. Any Fae with enough status to be invited to such an important event would have long since learned to control their reactions. Perhaps if she withdrew and sought some quiet for meditation, then clarity would follow.

Just as Jillian turned away to find the desired solitude, she was approached by Angelica. As the head of the largest of the Pixie villages, the tiny Fae was, by default, the representative of the Pixies. "Greetings Jillian, you look pensive," said the tiny Fae as she hovered in front of Jillian's face on wings beating as fast as a humming bird's.

"Angelica, welcome," Jillian nodded to the winged female. "I hope the Pixies are pleased with the new trade agreements."

Angelica gave her a predatory smile. "Oh, they'll do for now. But what could be causing you to look so serious on such a happy occasion?"

"Do I look serious?" hedged Jillian. She made a mental note to control her face better, now was not the time to show weakness to outsiders.

"Oh, I think you know you do," the Pixie gave her a sharp look, "and I think I know why, as well."

Jillian just raised an eyebrow and looked at Angelica. The delicate Fae's tiny face betrayed nothing.

"Do you think it is only the High-Court Fae who are capable of smelling trouble in the air?" Angelica gave the Sidhe a bitter look. "We lesser-Fae have noses as sharp as yours, my lady," she added, the honorific thrown in ironically.

Jillian's second eyebrow joined the first, just below her hairline. "I never suggested that you don't, and the only one calling you 'lesser', Angelica, is you. If you have knowledge of danger brewing, then by all means, speak up."

"Ah yes, how could I have forgotten? It is a new day, with a new regime about to rise." As the Pixie spoke, she cut a contemptuous glance towards Uaine and Roni standing near the queen. "The past is now over, and we are all one Court once again. Not all of us forget centuries of injustice so easily, Jillian."

Grimacing but acknowledging the truth in the Pixie's words, Jillian said, "Ithel's behavior was inexcusable, but he is dead and his vision for the Summer Court died with him. The goddess made her judgment known, and the wise will do their best to abide by it. The past may not be forgotten, but we cannot change what was done. All we can do is make the future better."

Sighing, Angelica crossed her arms over her chest. She looked down, and then back up and cocked her head to the side. "Perhaps. We shall see. Your prince and his mate will be under close scrutiny, I hope you know that."

"Our prince and our princess are well aware that they have much work to do to heal the Court of past hurts. Is that the trouble you spoke of?"

Flipping her lilac hair over her shoulder, the Pixie gave Jillian a sly look. "No," she floated over to settle onto the larger Fae's shoulder, "I have reason to believe that the prince and the princess may not live long enough to be king and queen," she whispered into the Sidhe's ear.

Jillian gave Angelica a sharp look out of the corner of her eye. "Why would you believe such a thing?"

"There have been whisperings. You must know that Logan and Deirdra's family is not pleased with their fate."

"That is hardly a revelation," said Jillian, thinking of how the Elf female had been killed by the spell she tried to use to murder Roni.

"No, of course not, and you don't truly believe they will not retaliate, do you?"

Jillian fought to conceal how startled she was by the thought. "The goddess herself has bestowed her protection on the princess, and her blessing on the royal wedding. Are Logan and Deirdra's relatives foolish enough to challenge the goddess?"

Angelica snorted. "Not directly, of course, that would be suicide. But you know perfectly well there are always loopholes in any magic. All they need do is find one."

"Do you have specific knowledge of any such plots, or is this mere speculation?"

The Pixie gave Jillian a smug look, as she lifted off of the Sidhe's shoulder to once again hover before the larger Fae's eyes. "Why don't we go somewhere more private to discuss the matter?"



Jillian gave the Pixie a searching look and then nodded. "If you'll follow me...?"

Paul Williams #Interviewed By Mistral Dawn

Paul Anthony Williams is joining us today.  Paul, please tell us about yourself and your books. :-)

Paul:  My name is Paul Anthony Williams and i am an author of Fantasy Fiction. I am 37 years old and i live in Rugeley, Staffordshire Uk. I was born 14th August 1977 in Norwich,Norfolk Uk. I currently have written 3 books under a series called The Dark Clown Series and these are The Snake Of Snowspire, The Fires of Al Yon, and the Tides of Time.

Me:  Sounds spooky. :-)  What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?

Paul:  The name of my latest book is called The Savage Seas and is the fourth book in the Dark Clown Series carrying off where the Tides of Time left off.

Me:  Wonderful. :-)  What are you working on now?

Paul:  I have currently 8 books i am currently working (4 actually writing and 4 at the drafting ideas stage). The next three books will be a murder fiction trilogy under the title of The Dark Poet Trilogy. After that i have a new fantasy series called A Grim World Series which consists of 3 books at the moment ( A DAY TO DIE, A SKIP THROUGH THE SHADOWS, THE TELLER OF TALES...with more to come in the future) and then a book called Project 3.

Me:  Sounds like you've been busy. :-)What authors, or books have influenced you?

Paul:  There are various authors I have read and liked over the years but if I had to choose one then it would be Stephen King. There is nothing more thrilling then sitting down and reading a King book to satisfy your mind.

Me:  Yes, Stephen King novels do tend to be quite thrilling. :-)  What are you reading now?

Paul:  I am currently reading Finders Keepers by Stephen King.

Me: Cool.  For those who might consider reading your book, what would you tell them to expect?

Paul: Readers should expect the unexpected with all my books such as The Dark Clown Series which begins softly enough in book 1 The Snake Of Snowspire but slowly darkens by the time of book 2 The Fires of Al Yon and book 3 The Tides of Time....book 4 The Savage Seas is no different.  The Dark Poet Trilogy is a different kettle of fish as I have gotten a lot darker with the characters.  The Grim World Series is a lot lighter with various humorous bits such as A DAY TO DIE which deals with the Grim Reaper called Bob and a chain smoking pigeon called Percy.

Lily Luchesi #Interviewed By Mistral Dawn

Lily Luchesi is joining us today! Lily, please tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.

Lily:  Hi! I'm Lily Luchesi, and I am a new author. My debut novel Stake-Out (Paranormal Detectives Book 1) was released on May 19th via the fabulous indie press Vamptasy Publishing. I have also contributed a short vampire romance to the Crushing Hearts And Black Butterfly anthology Love Sucks, called Undead Ever After.  I love words, I love reading and I love writing. When I'm not reading and writing, I'm watching horror films and television, listening to music or watching anime.

Me:  I'm guessing your favorite movie monsters are vampires? ;-) What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?

Lily:  My latest book is Stake-Out, and it's about a mortal cop in Chicago whose perp turns out to be a vampire. After he loses his job because his captain thinks he's crazy, he falls into depression...until the beautiful and deadly Angelica Cross comes to his door to recruit him to join a special branch of the FBI to hunt down the rogue vampire before he makes all of Chicago his next meal.
I was inspired to write it because I have two obsessions when it comes to literature: vampire stories and crime thrillers. I was watching a crime drama on TV and thought, "What if a cop's perp turned out to be a vampire?" That night I had the prologue written, and the rest just kept coming. I wrote the whole thing in less than two months, and wound up with enough material to make it a four book series.

Me:  Cool! :-) What are you working on now?

Lily:  Right now I have two upcoming publications for which I am working on edits: a short erotic horror story The Devil's Dozen for the Hot Ink Press anthology Death, Love And Lust and the sequel to Stake-Out, which is called Miranda's Rights. The Devil's Dozen is an LGBTQA story about a woman falling in lust with the Angel of Death and the anthology will be released on November 14th.
Miranda's Rights continues about half a year after Stake-Out ends, with Danny trying to forget about his time hunting vampires. He just wants to be normal, but when an old enemy resurfaces, sending renegade werewolves to capture him, he needs to go back to the Paranormal Investigative Division...and back to Angelica. But he never expected a dead ex to show up after twenty-six years... That will be released on January 8th, 2016.

Me: Sounds like you have a plan. :-) What authors, or books have influenced you?

Lily:  I was inspired early on by classic writers, like Poe, Tolkien, the Bronte sisters, Stoker, Shakespeare and the like. As a young adult, I discovered the joys of vampire teen fiction with Ellen Schreiber, Heather Brewer (now known as Zac Brewer) and Darren Shan. Their works have been quite influential to me and the way I see vampires. Later in my teens, I discovered Terri Garey and Stephen King. Mrs. Garey made me see a way to make horror and paranormal more approachable to a wider audience. King...what can I say? He mixes beautiful language, gruesome imagery and humanity into crazy wild rides. If I could be even one tenth as talented as he, I would be happy!

Me:  Poe and Tolkien are on my favs list too. ;-)   What are you reading now?

Lily:  Now I read everything. I still gravitate towards horror and paranormal, but I have really broadened my horizons in the past few years. I love Carmilla Voiez, she really gave the horror genre a makeover! Also a huge fan of Rue Volley, Cameo Renae, Stephen Kozeniewski, Mary Fan, Traci Borum, Katie Keller-Nieman, John Benedict, Skye Knizley, Elizabeth Montgomery, Suanne Laqueur and SM Reine. I also still read all of the authors I mentioned above, especially loving Darren Shan's adult books he wrote as Darren Dash.

Me:  Wonderful! :-) For those who might consider reading your book, what would you tell them to expect?

Lily:  Don't have any expectations. I am a fan of horror. A world where vampires are killers who love to snap necks and kill lycans. While there is a romantic element to Stake-Out, it is not a romance book and I would never try to sell it as paranormal romance. I also want them to expect to get a kick ass female lead. Angelica Cross is everything I always wanted to have in a leading lady, but rarely found. For females reading this, I think they're going to enjoy her attitude.
The book is part mystery and part horror adventure. It's short and I hope it packs a punch and makes you, reader, crave the next book!

Me: Sounds interesting. :-) What is your favorite part of being an author?

Lily:  I thought my favorite part was going to be getting my work out into the world, but I was wrong. It's not the work, it's what comes after the work is released: meeting amazing fellow authors and readers. I have made so many wonderful friends since publishing my novel. I am very blessed. While writing is a LOT of work, especially being an indie writer, the results and the people I have gotten to know are so worth it.

Me:  Yes, the indie community is awesome! :-)  Do you have a day job as well?

Lily:  I do not. I am only twenty-one, and have had very bad anxiety and depression issues since I was seventeen. I have PTSD, insomnia and chronic nightmares. Writing helps me focus and has made me get a little better since I have had this job to focus on. There are days getting out of bed is very difficult, but God, my mother and writing have gotten me through the worst of it.

Me: It's good you've found an outlet. :-) What are the hardest and easiest parts about being a writer?

Lily:  Hardest part for me is the self doubt. Is this good enough? Will people like it? Will they keep coming back for the next book? Will people make fun of my hard work? I have, as I mentioned, anxiety issues, so that makes writing hard. The easiest part. Hmm. I think the writing itself. There are days I sit and swear at my laptop because I have writer's block, but when the words flow, it's like I'm not even the one writing. As if my characters are telling me their stories. That's the most fun and easiest part of being an author.

Me:  It truly is amazing when the muse is with you. :-) What genre do you place your book in?

Lily:  Horror and supernatural thriller. I have it on Amazon as "Vampire mystery" and I think that's as close to accurate as you're going to get!

Me:  Great! Is there anything else you'd like to tell your readers?

Lily:  Don't give up. I don't care if you're fifteen or fifty. If you have a dream, work hard and don't give up. I started sending submissions since I was sixteen, and received some rejection letters so harsh I cried myself to sleep for days. I quit for almost a year, till my mom made me remember why I was working so hard. So I kept going.
The same advice can be given to you, reader, no matter what it is you're going through. It might be something as small as a fight with your significant other, or something as major as a terminal illness or death of a loved one. Don't give up. Keep going till you reach a happy place. Life is always going to give you lemons, but here's the thing: the more lemons you get, the more opportunities you have to make sweet lemonade! My favorite saying is this: "If you're going through Hell, keep going."
And remember what Stephen King said in Rose Madder: "It ain't the blows we're dealt that matter, but the ones we survive."

Lisa Beth Darling has joined us today to tell us about herself and her work. Lisa, please tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.

Lisa:  Currently, I have 18 books on the market but that's not the limit to the books and stories I've written. To date, I've penned somewhere around 22 novels and 40+ shorter stories.

Me:  Sounds like you've been busy! :-)  What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?

Lisa:  My most current release is entitled Mysterious Ways and it is the third installment in my Sister Christian series. This series revolves around a brother, Richard Mason, and a sister, Hannah Rice, who knew each other as children but didn't know they were siblings. Mason is a world-famous physician, a borderline alcoholic and drug addict, and notorious loner. Thirty years ago, Hannah had been headed for college when she was in a severe car accident and spent most of her life in group homes. Mason is 'reunited' with her when his biological father dies leaving him in charge of Hannah. The inspiration for this series was my desire to do something a little different—to get away from romance/erotica for a while--and to tell a simple story that still had great impact on the reader.

Me:  Interesting. :-) What are you working on now?

Lisa:  I've just started work on a continuation of my OF WAR Series entitled War on Blue Mountain. Technically, the OF WAR Series has concluded so this may be start of a new series with the same cast of incredible characters; Ares God of War, his wife Alena, their children Raven and Rose. This story takes place in a post-apocalyptic and post-Olympus world decimated by Major Falls a disease unleashed by Apollo in "Rising Son", book #4 in the OF WAR series. Readers can expect to be reunited with at least one old enemy who is hell bent on destroying the peaceful settlement on Blue Mountain.

Me:  Sounds exciting!  What authors or books have influenced you?

Lisa:  My biggest influence will always be Stephen King but I read a lot of my mother's books growing up so Jacqueline Susan, VC Andrews, Judith Rossner, Mary Higgins Clark, and Harold Robbins are also great influences.

Me:  Lots of scary stories there! What are you reading now?

Lisa:  I just finished editing a children's book for a friend.

Me:  Cool!  For those who might consider reading your books, what would you tell them to expect?

Lisa:  With the exception of the Sister Christian series—and even then not so much—readers can expect darker stories full of sex, romance, lust, suspense, betrayal, rage, and with any luck at all, redemption. Generally, they are not for those like a sweet read or insist on a HEA. Again, with the exception of the Sister Christian series, all fiction stories contain scenes of graphic sex and violence.

Me:  Sounds great! :-) What is your favorite part of being an author?

Lisa:  Creating my own worlds and getting lost in the rush as I fly through The Zone with the Muse.

Me:  Yes, that is fun. :-) Do you have a day job as well?

Lisa:  Yes, I'm the secretary/web mistress/mailing list mom/office manager/sole support system for a local trades union.

Me:  Busy lady! What are the hardest and easiest parts about being a writer?

Lisa:  Most days the hardest part is getting started and staying motivated. Self-doubt is a real buzz kill. The easiest is when I stop listening to myself and start doing whatever it is the Muse wants. He's always right. Funny that.

Me:  Gotta love that muse. ;-) In what genre do you place your books?

Lisa:  I don't pigeon-hole myself into a genre as I feel it's too limiting. As a writer, I want to stretch my wings and try my hand at different things just as an actor wishes to explore different types of roles. All of my fiction is relationship-based in that the central story revolves around a couple. My tales run the gambit from romance to erotica, paranormal to contemporary, horror to action and everything in between. I also do non-fiction.
