Day Six-Hundred-Sixty-Eight:

I must admit my young protégé is growing quite clever. I was attempting to record my hominid-servant's vital signs, which is something I do routinely to ensure her continued good health. The easiest way for me to do this, and the way that I generally accomplish this task, is to wait until she sits down without one of her electronic devices taking up space on her lap, and then pin her down by sitting on top of her. This allows me to get accurate readings for my instruments.

Unfortunately, the juvenile felid also finds these moments to be convenient for garnering attention for himself. Also, a hominid lap is admittedly a warm, comfortable place for one to seize a few moments of repose. Of course, his presence disrupts my examination and makes it impossible for me to conduct a precise analysis of my hominid-servant's state of being.

Therefore, on this occasion, I attempted to dissuade him from accompanying me in restraining my hominid-servant's movements. He proved resistant to my requests, so eventually I resorted to a threat display. Since I still outweigh the small pest by a significant margin, such exhibits of physical potential remain, for the most part, an effective if rather crude way of establishing my dominance.

However, the shrewd beast surprised me with an unexpected display of cunning manipulation. Instead of challenging me directly, he retreated to my hominid-servant's sleeping platform and there commenced a pitiable appeal for her attendance in shrill and stentorian tones. This was a clear attempt to draw my hominid-servant away from me and to himself. And, to my astonishment, it worked!

Prior to this incident, I would have thought my hominid-servant far too savvy to fall for such an obvious ploy. But it only took a few moments of the irritating creature's ruckus before she felt it incumbent upon her to go investigate the matter. And then, apparently unashamed of her gullibility, she failed to express any annoyance at being tricked. On the contrary, instead of returning to her seat, as I would have expected, she climbed onto her sleeping platform and gave the little hooligan exactly what he had so obviously been begging for!

Truly, I despair of ever being able to assert that the hominids of this planet qualify as intelligent life.

Ugh! Foolish hominids! ;-) You may have noticed that Agent Thoth has a new look. I hope you like his new picture as much as I do, but I'd love to hear your thoughts, either way. Feel free to let me know what you think in the comments. ;-) Happy reading, everyone!

#HappyNewYear!! :-)

Hey Everyone!! :-)

That's right! We've all survived just one more trip around the sun and I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year! It's been another wild ride, but if you're reading this then you're still kicking! ;-)

I'd like to say that I think things will get easier for this coming year, but honestly I think that's a vain hope. Last year was a roller coaster that had many of us on the edge of our seats trying to anticipate the next insane thing our elected representatives would try to do and trying to figure out how to stop them. Some of those battles we won, others we lost, but at least we've put up a good fight. Personally, I think this coming year will bring more of the same. And, unfortunately, it's up to us to try to keep the people in charge from killing everyone on the planet. Sorry to be a downer on what's supposed to be a day of new beginnings, but I think it's important to be ready to hit the ground running.

Still, I think there are a lot of reasons for optimism, not the least of which is all of you. I sincerely hope you will all stay strong, sassy, and smiling, and that in the end we'll all stand together and laugh about our struggles as we celebrate our victories. To another year of adventure, learning, and growth, and may we all have the strength and wisdom to weather with grace whatever life throws our way. And always remember, non illegitimi carborundum! ;-)

Ring In The #NewYear #Recipe!

Hey Everyone!! :-)

Since it's New Year's Eve, I thought I'd share a lighter recipe to help us all prepare for those New Year's resolution diets. Enjoy! :-)

Ingredients:
4 large lettuce leaves
1 cup brown rice cooked
1 14oz package button mushrooms sliced
1 large onion chopped
1 large tomato chopped
1 zucchini chopped
1 large carrot shredded
1 bell pepper chopped
2 cups baby spinach leaves chopped
1 12oz can kidney beans drained and rinsed
1 cup pine nuts toasted
5 cloves garlic minced
2 cups fresh basil shredded
1 cup red wine (your choice) or 1/2 cup red wine vinegar
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp sriracha (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste

Put the olive oil in a skillet with the onions and pepper and saute until they soften. Add the mushrooms and continue to saute until they soften. Add the remaining vegetables, beans, garlic, salt and pepper, and sriracha (optional), and continue to saute until spinach leaves are wilted. Add the pine nuts and deglaze the pan with the wine or vinegar. Simmer for a few minutes while stirring to combine all the ingredients. Add the rice and stir to combine. Remove from heat and serve on top of the lettuce leaves.
