Hey Everyone!!

K.K. Allen has been kind enough to join us today! :-)  K. K., can you tell us about yourself and how many books you have written?

KK: Hi, my name is K.K. Allen and I'm the author of The Summer Solstice Series. So far, two books in the series have been released—The Summer Solstice: Enchanted and The Equinox. My series is a essentially a Young Adult novel that all ages can appreciate. I enjoy writing Fantasy novels through the eyes of my main characters as I really feel that this first person experience allows my readers to enjoy every step of the journey as if they are the main character. 

Me:  That sounds like a lot of fun! :-)  What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?

KK:  My latest book, The Equinox, was just released on December 10th and it's the follow up novel to The Summer Solstice: Enchanted. The Equinox explores the looming threat that my main characters and their peers face as a community. The world around Katrina Summer (protagonist) opens up as secrets are exposed and horrible occurrences strike the people of their town. The entire series is based off of an original mythology surrounding descendants of Ancient Greek gods and goddesses. 

Me:  Wow! Must have taken a lot of research!  What are you working on now?

KK:  I am currently working with a production team on the audio version of Enchanted. I'm also in the final stages of outlining the third book in the series, The Descendants.  

Me:  Busy, busy!  Are there any authors, or books, who have influenced you?

KK:  I read a diverse range of genres so I'm inspired by many...Contemporary Romance books are my number one reads of choice. Nicholas Sparks' books own my heart. I'm a sucker for a good love story, especially one that promotes old-fashioned / one-true love relationships. But I also love the recent great reads by John Green, Veronica Roth, etc.

Me:  I have to say I'm biased, romance is my favorite too! :-)  What are you reading now?

KK: I'm currently reading an Indie novel by Kylie Kaemke. I've heard wonderful things about her book, Heavy Hearts. I love supporting Indie authors. There's a lot of awesome buried treasures out there so I encourage all to give them a try. You just might be surprised by what you find.

Me:  You're right!! There are a lot of really great books out there that only suffer from not having the promotional reach of the big publishing houses! :-)  For those who might consider reading your book, what would you tell them to expect?

KK:  Expect to be surprised. You definitely want to pay this novel your full attention and enjoy every step of the journey without any expectations. I encourage my potential readers to not read the reviews because any spoiler could potentially ruin the experience of The Summer Solstice Series. It's really one surprise after the other. Expect for Enchanted (BOOK ONE) to set you up for the adventure that is The Equinox.

Me:  Oooo! A mystery! ;-)  What is your favorite part of being an author?

KK:  The answer to this question surprises me. Obviously I love writing, but I never expected to meet such an amazing network of writers, bloggers, and readers. Everyone is so supportive and incredible to one another. I really hope to help drive the Indie community to its fullest potential. Groups like #IndieBooksBeSeen are doing great things to help with this as well. It's all about creating opportunities for the community as a whole, rather than just ourselves. I love that there is such a great group of authors who believe in this as well.

Me:  You're right! The indie author community is really wonderful! :-)  Do you have a day job as well?

KK:  I do! I work full time and am a proud full time single mother to my handsome three-year old. Life is busy and rewarding.

Me:  Busy and happy, it sounds like. ;-)  What is the hardest and easiest part about being a writer?

KK:  Not getting to write full time is definitely the toughest part of being a writer. Not only that but the marketing alone takes up a significant part of my time. I'd love to focus fully on writing one day. The easiest part—writing :) 

Me:  I think all indie authors would agree with you about the marketing. :-)  What genre do you place your book in?

KK:  Fantasy as a general category. Sub categories include Urban, Paranormal, Coming of Age, and Greek Mythology.

Me:  Great! :-)  Anything else you'd like to tell your readers?

KK:  Readers and bloggers are everything to us authors, especially those of us who don't have the support of traditional publishing companies and literary agents. Reviews are the biggest gift that you can give to us. If you read a book, please review it to help give others a sense of why you enjoyed the book you just read. Help spread the word about our books, because without word of mouth, our books aren't visible. It surprises many that I chose to be Indie. It's not like I got a million rejections and decided to just self-publish. I'm an organized creative person by nature, which is basically unheard of, and I love the strategy that goes behind marketing my own books. Is it frustrating at times? YES. But is it fulfilling? YES. Would I love to be traditionally published and reach millions of readers rather than thousands? YES, PLEASE!

About The Author:

Even though Naddya Foxfire was born into a Catholic family, she began studying Wicca and paganism as a young adult. She founded an online group in west Texas in an attempt to find and meet other like-minded people in her area. Eventually, this group led to an organized coven called Way of the Lady, of which she was elected High Priestess. The Way of the Lady became a large group, following an eclectic (varied) path. Naddya was even interviewed by the local paper, and appeared in an article published June 28, 2009 about Wicca and paganism.
During this time, she and her husband were also raising their children in the Wiccan way. Both children are still studying the path of Wicca, although they were certainly free to choose their own path. The eldest has been formally initiated into the coven, and the youngest has dedicated herself to the coven.
Naddya loves animals and her totem spirit is the fox. Her element is Fire, and her patron deities are Thor and Athena. Even though she has now moved away from the west Texas area, she maintains contact with her coven mates, even renewing the online group with a Facebook page, and she continues to study and practice Wicca.

“Yes.” she grinned. “I rather enjoyed our game. Shall I show you how much?”

Smiling, he asked; “What did you have in mind?”

“Well, it occurs to me that I never got to show you how talented a mouth I have.”

“Is that so?”

Pushing him onto his back and sitting up on her knees, Roni drew her hair behind herself and said; “MmmHmmm…Now lie there, and don’t move. Or I’ll tie you up, this time.”

Grinning wickedly, the prince lay back and crossed his arms beneath his head. His gaze traveled over his Anamchara’s body, as his own hardened. “Really? I think I find that proposition intriguing.”

Putting her hands on her hips, Roni gave him a mock severe look and said; “Are you going to behave, or do I need to find some rope?”

Pretending to consider, he said; “I’ll cooperate for now, but you might want to have the rope ready.”

Noticing that her lover’s eyes were locked on her breasts, she gave her shoulders a small shake, which caused them to sway. His gaze followed her dancing flesh, as it moved hypnotically from side to side, and she leaned forward to whisper in his ear; “If I have to tie you up, I’ll blind fold you too.”

Her words startled a laugh from him, and his eyes locked with hers. “You are a saucy wench, aren’t you?!?” He smiled. “Well, I guess I’d best behave myself then; I’d hate to miss out on such a view.”

Her grin spread from ear to ear, and she felt her eyes sparkle. She wondered at his ability to tease her and make her enjoy it. Leaning down again, she laid a gentle peck on his lips, and then began leaving a teasing trail of kisses down his jaw and neck.

Uaine’s eyes slid closed at the heavenly feel of his Anamchara’s mouth on his body. It was all he could do to keep his hands where they were, and not reach out and draw her beneath him. She seemed intent on tormenting him, and he longed to feel her lips around the part of his body that was hard and aching.

The #amazing Jen Winters has been kind enough to join us today! Jen, will you tell us about yourself and how many books you have written?

Jen: I have one novel and one novelette out right now. Kissing Demons is available on Amazon, and Kissing the Rain is available basically everywhere.

Me: I'm reading Kissing the Rain right now! Very hot!! ;-) What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?

Jen: Kissing Demons is a paranormal romance that I wrote in reaction to a bad divorce (is there such a things as a good divorce?) and the need to do something with my life besides being a failure. That was six years ago and I am a better person today than I was then, and Kissing Demons is better after three rewrites than it was then too.

Me: Practice makes perfect!! :-) And I agree, writing is wonderful therapy! ;-) What are you working on now?

Jen: Right now I am working on the next in the Guardian series, Falling Angels. It follows the life of Ambrose, one of the fallen, and his romance with Lavinia, a Guardian with a few extras.

Me: Sounds exciting! :-) What authors, or books, have influenced you?

Jen: Certainly Sherrilyn Kenyon has influenced me the most as far as my choice of romantic sub-genre and my goals for my career. James Patterson has also has significant influence because of his journey into self-publishing, and Stephen King, whose stories I've never liked, but whose prose I find ultimately beautiful.

Me: I agree with you, Stephen King definitely has a way with words. I read an essay he wrote about how we all have "alligators in the basement" that we need to feed, the darker aspects of our psyches, and how horror fiction is a great, and non-violent, way to do that. I really enjoyed that essay, and still remember it even though I read it more than 15 years ago. :-) What are you reading now?

Jen: I am reading several novels concurrently: Captured Lies by Maggie Thom, and Bound by the Summer Prince, by our very own Mistral Dawn, and a couple of books by Jamie Jeffries that she gave me for review.

Me: *happy dance!!!* Thank you! :-) I very much hope you are enjoying it! For those who might consider reading your book, what would you tell them to expect?

Jen: Hmm, good question. Based upon my reviews so far, I would say my readers can expect a sweet romance interspersing an action-packed paranormal novel. Kissing Demons was my debut novel, and while I am proud of it, honestly I can say it is a 4 star read, but I can also say that my skills as a word weaver have enhanced since the writing of Kissing Demons and I very much expect Falling Angels to blow my readers away.

Me: Awesome!! It's such an amazing feeling when a story comes together! :-) What is your favorite part of being an author?

Jen: I have many things I love about being an author, but the unexpected review is by far the best part. I give my book away for reviews almost every week, but the reviews I get from the readers who bought the book are much more exciting and make me feel much more accomplished.

Me: I know that feeling well, it's so amazing to know that other people enjoy our work! :-) Do you have a day job as well?

Jen: I do! I am a stay at home mother and homeschool teacher. Did you mean a job that pays in more than hugs and kisses on a good day? Then, no. I do not.

Me: Ha! Sounds like you have all of the best jobs!!! :-) Lucky lady! What are the hardest and easiest parts about being a writer?

Jen: Hardest part is making sure I take the time to write every day. The easiest part is getting my ideas. Seriously. Don't ask me where I find inspiration, I don't have to find it--it stalks me.

Me: Yeah, my characters come and bug me while I'm sleeping if they don't think I'm writing fast enough. ;-) What genre do you place your book in?

Jen: It is solidly in the paranormal romance subgenre.

Me: One of my favorites! :-) Anything else you'd like to tell your readers?

Jen: I'd love for my readers to feel free to ask me anything. I probably won't even lie! :D
